A?candlelit vigil will be held in Manchester to show solidarity for a woman murdered in India.
The 23-year old medical student was gang-raped and beaten on a bus in New Delhi and later died at a Singapore hospital on Friday (Dec 28).
Her horrific ordeal sparked protests from Indians to demand greater protection for women from sexual violence that impacts thousands of them every day.
A special ceremony to show solidarity in the wake of the killing will be held at St Chrysostom's Church in Victoria Park on New Year's Eve.
Revd Kim Wasey, assistant priest at St Chrysostom's said: ?The tragic and shocking death of a 23-year old Indian medical student who was victim of gang-rape has led many thousands across India to speak out and protest about the violence suffered by women.
?Candlelit vigils take place across India in these days of hope and determination for a better future for women.
?I invite you to join me by candle light at the prayer tree outside St Chrysostom's Church to stand in solidarity with, and pray for, all those who are striving to bring transformation for
Indian women, and all women who suffer from oppression and inequality.?
The vigil will be held at the church at 4.50pm before Mass on New Year?s Eve.
