The Job

Job Purpose
? To support creation of Design Validation Plans and completion of plans to timing requirements
? To develop test specifications based on product requirements
? To prepare for, conduct and report testing of vehicles, bodies and all associated systems.
? To develop standard test procedures & rigs in order to validate product design.
? To liaise with external test houses in the definition and performance of ?contracted out? test work.
? To be able to add value in new product developments.
? To support project teams in design reviews

Relationships
Reports to Technical Manager ? Product development
Responsible for Test support personnel when allocated
Close Liaison with Engineering Design And Other Internal/ External, Customers/ Suppliers

Key Area 1 - Technical Skills
? Extensive experience of setting up and running engineering tests
? Ability to investigate and propose instrumentation suitable for the various tests that the Department carries out.
? Understanding of Design Validation Plans (DVP)
? Able to develop a test based on a product spec
? Able to understand and be/become proficient in the use of relevant instrumentation.
? Conduct tests obtain results and ensure reports are written and recorded.
? To develop and maintain a record of all test work.
? Have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
? Be able to analyse results, propose changes and resolve problems.
? Be able to understand and use drawings.
? All round knowledge of vehicle systems and construction.
? Minimum Qualifications :- HNC or equivalent relevant experience.

Key Area 2 - Liaison with other departments on testing
? Be able to communicate details of tests to all levels of the business, both in written and verbal form
? Negotiate resource to support testing
? Have an appreciation of the conditions of use of the vehicles to advise upon testing to represent the use and / or abuse suffered in service.

? Able to communicate effectively with all levels within the company
? Able to communicate effectively with external suppliers/customers
? Able to show evidence of team skills
? Open, honest and timely reporting of tasks.

Key Area 4 ? Ability to Multi-Task within Agreed Timescales
? Accept a level of multi tasking and take responsibility for prioritising within agreed time scales.

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
- Truck, or related product (i.e. off highway)
- Coordination of test projects from concept to completion
- Coordination of internal and external suppliers
- Specifying, setting up and use of instrumentation
- Signal processing and data analysis
- Understanding of engineering standards
- Writing reports and recording in a structured manner
- Computer literate, Microsoft Office and data logging, recording and translation.

SKILLS / ATTRIBUTES
- Ability to communicate at all levels in the business
- Well-developed problem solving techniques
- Attention to detail
- Ability to provide sound, reasoned arguments for proposed product development.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Min qualification HNC in Mechanical Eng or the ability to demonstrate the same level of competence

- Service support/ off site visits.
- Occasional over seas travel.
