Me And My Dolly ? A Moving Story : Mom Knows It All. ? PR Friendly ...

chair moving dolly

I am not a fan of moving. I?ve moved a number of times in my life, all but one of them with my husband. None of those moves involved a moving company, that was always outside of our budget even with resources like a moving website. We have had some interesting things happen while moving, and have a number of funny moving stories. One of the stories that I know I?ll never forget is the one about the day we helped my brother LB2 move out of his apartment a couple of years ago.

We spent a whole weekend helping him load up boxes and furniture and take it to a storage space. He had a lot of stuff ? far more then I would have thought or expected him to have considering it was only a one bedroom apartment that he?d only been in for one year. We?d arranged to get a truck from the storage place where he was storing his things.

When we got there the truck was already out. Not having time to waste, we went to Home Depot and rented one of their trucks. There was no deal, no sale signs, nothing proclaiming the need to take advantage of this offer from Sainsburys or anything like that. They charged us a flat rate for the day. Simple. The great move was on.

First out was the big furniture ? couch, loveseat, bed, dressers, etc. My brother thought it would be easier if we used the freight elevator in his building. What the rest of us didn?t know is that it was about 180 degrees opposite his apartment. There were two looooooooooooong hallways we had to go down for each trip to that elevator. While the guys moved the big things I moved boxes. There were boxes on top of boxes. The boxes contained all of the little stuff, food storage containers, kitchen electrics and stuff like that. Nothing perishable. Actually, there was no food at all, since he knew he wouldn?t be emptying the space for a while.

It took under a minute to realize we?d neglected to get a handtruck to move the boxes. I improvised and used my brother?s computer chair. That helped with the carrying but not with the temperature. The hallways were as hot as a greenhouse. I was there for almost six hours before I had to go home. I walked what felt like miles, pushing my chair full of boxes. I came home and collapsed on the couch ? every muscle in my body was aching. The guys (RB, LB2 and LB3) were up there for a good fours hours more and they were sore too. At the end of the day everyone was beat. Had we been in the UK and I?d been there I would have thought ahead and bought one or two of the best Tesco deals on wine. But, this was Bayonne and I wasn?t so the guys made do with a six pack.

Do you have any funny moving stories? What would you use if you didn?t have a handtruck or dolly?

This is a sponsored post. The story, and my opinions, are my own and have not been influenced.
